Dundee Sun City:

Dundee Sun City is where it all started for Solar Cities Scotland back in 2003. It aims to put Dundee on the map as Scotland’s first Solar City.

Dundee has the best solar resource of all Scotland’s major cities due to its geographical location on the south facing shore of the Tay Estuary. The city has been built on a hillside overlooking the Tay and it has been calculated that approximately 60% of buildings in the city are oriented the right way to capture solar energy – hence the name – Dundee Sun City.

The Dundee Sun City initiative brought together the founding members of Solar Cities Scotland to find ways to address the economic, environmental and social conditions necessary for Dundee to become a Solar City.
